What's it all about?

The Quorn Hash House Harriers meets every 1st and 3rd Sunday at 11:00 plus the last Monday of every month at 19:15 (bring a torch in winter!). We mainly run in the north Leicestershire and south Nottinghamshire area but do have the occasional run in Derbyshire and further a field. The location of runs is arranged by our Hare Razor and advertised in the  [Receding Hareline]

We observe hash rules (well as any hasher knows, there are no rules on the hash!) and traditions. Nonethless, runs usually last about one hour following a flour trail laid by the nominated hare. Socialising continues after the run in the pub. The "Religous Advisor" leads the ON-IN circle when hashers are suitably rewarded for any achievements.

So what's Hashing?

The hash trail is laid by a hare, usually a couple of hours before the run. Braver hares will set out laying the trail about 10 minutes before the run and are known as "live hares". The correct trail is marked by blobs of flour at approximately 50 metre intervals (closer when off obvious tracks or in woodland). False trails are indicated by a flour circle - a check - and from this point the hare may lay two or more false trails. Checks are designed to make the fast runners run further allowing those walking at the back having a good natter to catch up. False trails are often terminated by a flour bar (though not always!). Three consecutive blobs of flour means you are on the right track. In town areas chalk arrows may be used. An arrow of any sort points the direction to go. The ON OUT is the direction hashers have to go from the start. The ON INN is the final trail to the pub. Simple eh!
